Mac permissions and Screen Control

Choose what workers may do on your Mac, and which macOS permissions the app uses.

Updated

Turn on work on your Mac

Workers can save and open files and do steps on your Mac only in the Mac app, and only as your Permissions allow. A new install starts with work on your Mac off.

  1. In the menu bar, choose Little Worker, then Settings….
  2. Click Your Mac.
  3. Click Allow Work on Your Mac.

To turn it off again, click Stop Work on Your Mac on the same page.

If the page says "Secure storage is not available, so work on your Mac stays off.", the app could not use your Mac's Keychain. Work on your Mac stays off until it can.

Choose what workers may do

On Your Mac, the Work on Your Mac choice applies to every worker:

  • Always: workers work on your Mac without asking.
  • Ask First: workers ask before each step on your Mac.
  • Never: workers do not work on your Mac.

Each worker's page also has Mac Access, with the same three choices for that worker alone. Same as Settings follows the choice on Your Mac. If your team's admin set a limit, a choice above it says "Your team's admin does not allow this."

Allow or Don't Allow

When a worker asks first, the task shows Needs You: Allow on Today. Read what it wants to do, then choose Allow or Don't Allow.

  • The Mac's notification has Allow and Don't Allow, and so does the iPhone's.
  • A request waits only a few minutes.
  • A step on your Mac waits for the Mac app on that Mac, signed in to the account that set it up.

Screen Control

Screen Control lets a worker see one window you allow, and click and type in it. It works only from the signed Little Worker app. It needs two macOS permissions, Screen Recording and Accessibility, and the app uses them only while Screen Control is on.

The Mac app does not offer Screen Control for workspace work today, so your workspace does not need these two permissions.

macOS permissions the app may ask for

The app asks only when a feature needs one:

  • Microphone: used only while the mic is on, so you can say a to-do or a message.
  • Screen Recording and Accessibility: used only if Screen Control is on.
  • Files: workers save and open files only as your Permissions allow.

You can give or take back each permission at any time in System Settings, under Privacy & Security.

In the app, Help > About Mac Permissions explains App Management. Little Worker does not install, update, or delete other apps. Help > Status of Your Mac opens the Your Mac page in Settings.
